Virabhadrasana I - dynamic hero pose

Dynamic hero pose

1. Stand upright on the mat in Tadasana, feet together, arms at your sides. Press your feet evenly into the mat, engaging your leg muscles.

2. Step your left foot back about 3 to 4 feet, keeping your toes pointed slightly outward at a 45-degree angle. The front knee should remain facing forward.

3. Turn your hips and shoulders to face the front of the mat, aligning them with the front edge. Your back leg should be parallel to the back edge of the mat.

4. Inhaling, bend your right knee, placing it directly above your right ankle. Try to create a 90-degree angle with your front leg, keeping your knee bent along with your ankle. The bent knee should not experience any stress. Make sure your right foot does not extend beyond the toes of your right foot. Feel a good stretch.

5. Press the outer edge of your left foot into the mat, allowing your heel to rest at a slight angle. This will help maintain balance in the pose.

5. Inhaling, raise both arms straight above your head, pulling your shoulders toward the sky. Keep your palms facing each other or allow them to touch.

6. Lift your chest and engage your core, avoiding compression in your lower back. Gently tilt your pelvis down to lengthen your lower back.

7. Keep your gaze forward, slightly upward, or in a neutral position, keeping your neck relaxed and in line with your spine.

8. Hold the pose for several breaths, keeping your breathing even, focusing on balance and alignment.

9. To release the pose, as you exhale, lower your arms and step your left foot forward to meet your right foot at the top of the mat. Repeat on the other side.

Contraindications. High blood pressure and heart problems.
